LANE SHARE OREGON - LEGISLATIVE MOTORCYCLE ADVOCACY
Lobbyist and communications manager
My love for motorcycles led me to become a registered lobbyist as a volunteer with Lane Share Oregon, an organization advocating for motorcycle policy in Oregon.
In 2019 and 2021, Lane Share Oregon worked hard to pass HB2314 and SB574 respectively, both aimed at legalizing a limited and safe version of motorcycle lane sharing based on the guidelines codified into law by the California State Assembly. For both bills, I led communications for LSO, creating educational videos and social drivers with calls to action for constituent communication with various legislative assemblies and committees. We created a legislator contact tool that automatically populated legislator information from the OLISS legislative database, and opened autofilled email for the constituent to contact their legislator. Using this method, the bill garnered over 640 pieces of constituent testimony, an “uncharacteristically high” amount according to legislators we spoke with.
SB574 passed the Oregon house with a 2/3rds majority, and the Oregon senate with a 3/5ths majority. Despite massive support from the Oregon motorcycle community, businesses, and elected officials, Governor Kate Brown vetoed the bill.
